Pennant Walk 2 - Distance 5.5 m, allow half a day
Pantasaph and Penyball

The walk starts at the Car Park at the top of the Well Hill. There is a bus stop at the nearby Supermarket.
Leave the car park and turn left to go down hill past the Roman Catholic Church. Go through the gate to walk down to the Parish Church. Walk out of Churchyard through the gate passing St Winefride’s Chapel on your right and walk down hill. You are now at St Winefride’s Well.
Cross over the road to go past the small walled car park and up the lane. When the lane reaches the former mineworkings continue ahead following the farm track to the gate. At this point continue ahead to go along a footpath effectively to the left of the farmgate Follow this to walk past a small pond on your left. Go through two Kissing Gates to go behind the playing field and to the right of the building to the road. Cross over into Nant Eos.
This road leads to a footpath that goes over a stile into a field. Cross over this stile and turn left. Do not follow the track but walk steeply uphill to the right of the hedge. Follow footpath with the hedge now on your left to go over a stile.
Cross over and head for the left of the trees. Continue directly across this meadow to go over a stile alongside a gate into the road at the houses. Turn left and follow this to the mainroad.
Turn right and cross over the road to start up the road before the Halfway House towards Carmel. Just after passing Ffordd Ffynnon take the footpath also on the left into the playing fields. Follow the path at the back of the houses and around the edge of the playing field to go between the houses to the village of Carmel.
Cross over the road to take the footpath to the right into Carmel Woods. Take the left fork uphill through the woods and then to the left of the locked gate and around the enclosure to a track which takes you on to Carmel Hill. There is also another locked gate with Private on it that is not the right of way.
Turn right at the end turn left uphill. Where the road bends to the right go straight ahead, at the white cottage, over stile into the field. Head for the the wood. When you reach the wood turn right over stile and walk with the wood on your left over another stile. Continue until you reach the road. Turn left and go downhill towards Pantasaph. When the road levels out turn left through the 3rd gate to walk to the Monastery and Church.
Walk past the front of the Church to go over stile into lane. Walk uphill and go through Kissing Gate. Walk uphill with the wall on your left and turn right before you get to the stile. Walk along with the fence on your left to go over a stile in the fence. Turn right around the bushes to go through the gate.
After the gate head slightly right to the fence above the quarry. Follow this ahead to go through the gorse bushes and turn right to go past the house.
Take the stile on the left and walk directly ahead and then left uphill along an old tramway to cross stile alongside gate. Follow the ridge path with wide views in all directions. Cross two more stiles . There is a Trig Point in this field with magnificient views. Return to the path to go over stile (right) and walk down across the field and go over another stile on to the Common. Turn left and join track up hill. When you reach the top of the hill visit the the Monument commemorating the marriage of King George V (1865 – 1936) and Queen Mary of Teck.
After visiting this monument continue down the steps and take the path forking to the right to a footpath sign. Take this footpath which goes on to the ridge.. Cross over two stiles to a seat, From here skirt to the right of the bushes and the small transmitter. Then head slightly left to a stile and gate. Go over this stile and the next one to turn right alongside the fence to another stile Turn left and walk alongside the fence to the gate go through and directly ahead to go over stile into the Pet’s Cemetery. Follow the path through it passing the wishing well to the gate. Immediately turn left to go through another gate. Follow the track and leave it where it goes to the farm gate to continue straight ahead to go over stile alongside gate. Again there are magnificent view over Holywell and beyond.
Continue down hill to go over stile in the corner. After crossing this stile take the path ahead which bends first left then right to reach the access road to the cottage. Turn right and then almost immediately left to walk with the hedge on your right. Go over the stile (in front of the cottage) and follow the narrow footpath to the kissing gate and out on to the road. Cross over the road and turn left. At the top of the Park Lane go through the gate into the park and follow the path around the Leisure Centre. Walk through the Memorial gates into the High Street and turn left.
At the HSBC Bank turn right to go to the Inner Relief Road and cross over at the Supermarket . Turn left to return to the start.

Continue directly across this meadow over a stile alongside a gate into the road at the houses. Turn left and follow this to the main road.
Turn right and cross the road before the Halfway House pub. Ignore the road going into the estate on the left and take the footpath also on the left into the playing fields. Follow the path at the back of the houses and around the edge of the playing field to go between the houses to Carmel village. Turn right towards the school.
Cross the road to take the footpath into Carmel Woods. Take the left fork uphill through the woods and then the gate into the lane and turn right. At the road turn left uphill. Where the road bends to the right go straight ahead over stile into the field. Head for the left hand side of the wood. When you reach the wood turn right and walk with the wood on your left until you reach the road. Turn left and go downhill towards Pantasaph. When the road levels out turn left through the gate to walk to the Monastery and Church.
Walk past the front of the Church over stile into lane. Walk uphill and go through Kissing Gate. Walk uphill with the wall on your left and turn right before you get to the stile. Walk along with the fence on your left and over a stile in the fence. Turn right around the bushes to go through the gate. Head slightly right to the fence above the quarry. After visiting this monument continue as if going over the hill down to Holywell. Before you start the descent take the footpath on your right which goes back on to the ridge . Cross over two stiles to a seat, Head for the telegraph pole and then for a stile to the left of the fence. Walk along this path, over another stile on your right which leads to yet another stile. Turn left and walk alongside the fence to the gate. Go through and directly ahead over a stile into the Pet’s Cemetery. Follow the path through it passing the wishing well to the gate. Immediately turn left to go through another gate. Follow the track and where it forks continue straight ahead (left) to go over stile. Again there are magnificent views over Holywell and beyond.
Continue down hill over stile in the corner. After crossing this stile take the path that forms a small zig zag to reach the access road to the cottage. Turn right and then left to walk with the hedge on your right. Go over the stile (in front of the cottage) and follow the narrow footpath to the kissing gate and out on to the road. Cross over the road and turn left. At the top of the next road go through the gate into the park and follow the path around the Leisure Centre. Walk through the Memorial gates into the High Street and turn left.
At the HSBC Bank turn right to go to the Inner Relief Road and cross over at the Supermarket . Turn left to return to the start.
